Scheef & Stone Donated Entire Law Library of 4,000 Books to Pinkston High School

We are so pleased to be able to donate our entire law library of approximately 4,000 books to Pinkston High School, a DISD law magnet school, earlier this week. Thank you to MoveStar for donating their time, trucks, and carts to assist with the move. We hope these books provide Pinkston students with reliable sources of information to pursue their desired career paths in the field of law. Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. Announces Eight Attorneys Recognized As 2016 Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine

DALLAS – Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. is pleased to announce that Partners Ann Badmus, Robert Bolton, Rebekah Steely Brooker, Byron Henry , Tom Kulik, Mitch Little, Shawn Tuma, and Brad Whitlock have been selected as D Magazine’s “Best Lawyers in Dallas” for 2016. The Best Lawyers list is featured in the magazine’s May issue released on April 20, 2016.

“We are honored to have eight attorneys recognized in this prestigious list” said John Scheef, Managing Partner at Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. “This recognition is confirmation the solid counsel we provide our clients is impacting our community in a positive way. We are humbled our peers in the DFW legal community have acknowledged the hard work and dedication these attorneys have applied to their practice.”

The 2016 listing of the top attorneys in Dallas was determined through a peer-review voting process, with ballots submitted by approximately 9,000 local lawyers. The final list of attorneys was determined by an independent panel of distinguished lawyers and the magazine’s editors. The complete list is included in the May 2016 edition of D Magazine and available online at www.dmagazine.com.

Ann Badmus’ practice consists primarily of employment and business related immigration matters, representing employers and their employees before various state and federal agencies with immigration oversight. Badmus appears frequently on national and local radio and television as a guest commentator on immigration law.

Robert Bolton has experience in the area of tax law, including estate planning and asset protection strategies to protect business and investment assets from unwarranted claims and the federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes. His practice also includes tax and business planning for partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations.

Rebekah Steely Brooker focuses her practice on estate planning and administration, probate matters, trust and asset protection planning, guardianship matters, and probate litigation. Rebekah helps her clients administer trusts and estates, and counsels clients on estate planning, charitable planning, and estate and trust management.

Byron Henry is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and centers his practice on the areas of business litigation and civil appeals. He provides advice to clients and attorneys on legal and business strategies, as well as trial support in complex civil cases in the area of experts, summary judgment, jury charge practice, and post-judgment motion practice.

Tom Kulik strategically counsels clients as outside general counsel on matters involving the evaluation, acquisition, development and protection of intellectual property rights, with an emphasis on creatively leveraging such assets both domestically and internationally. His practice focuses on intellectual property within the context of the IT transactions and computer software development/licensing.

Mitch Little counsels individuals and business organizations in state and federal courts in Texas and beyond, with an emphasis on cases involving securities fraud. Having a variety of experience dealing with victims of oil and gas promotional fraud, Ponzi schemes, and all types of investment theft, he has represented investors from all over the United States.

Shawn Tuma focuses his practice on issues involving digital information law such as computer fraud, cybercrimes, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the Texas Computer Crimes statute. He also assists clients with matters involving misappropriation of trade secrets; data and information security, and compliance; data privacy; and data breach response.

Brad Whitlock’s practice focuses on representing small and midsized business clients on corporate law matters such as business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity securities financings, company formation, contracts, employment matters, corporate governance issues, and a broad variety of other legal arrangements and agreements.

Richard McGary Memorial Service

At his February 29 memorial service, many of us said our final farewells to Richard McGary, a member of Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. since 2008. Richard is fondly remembered for his infectious smile and good humor, culinary interests, and of course his skill and experience as premises liability lawyer. Richard was recognized nationally at fire-scenes, as the “Texas lawyer” in his white cowboy hat. He was a trusted counselor and friend who will be deeply missed.

Law Firm Hosts Baseball Watch Party with Office of Consulate General of Canada

Dallas, TX, United States — Thursday, October 8, 2015 – The Texas Rangers clinched the American League West title last week and are now in the AL Division Playoffs. The first team the Rangers face on their path to the Pennant are the Toronto Blue Jays. Dallas area law firm, Scheef & Stone, L.L.P., will be hosting the Consulate General of Canada in Dallas for a watch party over a traditional baseball-themed lunch. Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. is excited to invite our office building “neighbours” to enjoy the friendly rivalry between the U.S. and Canadian teams.

“Both the Rangers and Blue Jays had very exciting comeback seasons,” the firm’s Administrator, Brenda Conine, said. “But I know the Rangers will make us proud. At the very least we get to meet our ‘northern’ (two floors up) neighbors from Canada.”

The Consulate General of Canada in Dallas represents Canada in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. It is one of 13 Canadian diplomatic offices across the United States supporting Canada/U.S. relations in areas such as security and defense, energy, trade and investment, environment and the border. The Dallas Consulate General also provides assistance to Canadians living or traveling in these states.Founding Partner, Bill Stone, confirms everyone in the firm is excited to network with the local Consulate General at the upcoming watch party.

Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. Announces Inaugural Recipient of Diversity LSAT Prep Course Scholarship

Dallas, TX — Tuesday, August 14, 2015 – Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. awarded the first Diversity LSAT Prep Course Scholarship as part of the firm’s Diversity Program. The scholarship was awarded to Claudia Segura, legal assistant to Partners Tom Kulik, Peter Lewis and Brad Whitlock.

One of the objectives of Scheef & Stone, L.L.P.’s Diversity Program is to inspire and assist young minds entering the legal industry. The firm’s Diversity Program has previously sponsored internship and clerkship programs through local law schools for minority students. Recently, Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. decided to expand the Diversity Program in order to provide assistance to undergraduate students entering law school.

Congratulations to Mark L. Hill and Mitch Little on their newly elected positions in the Collin County Bar Association. Partner Mark L. Hill was elected Vice President and Partner Mitch Little was elected Treasurer for the 2015-16 bar association year.
