Overview
Michael Schofield is a USPTO-registered patent attorney with more than 15 years of experience across the full lifecycle of intellectual property matters. He began his legal career focused on patent and trademark preparation and prosecution—building a deep technical and strategic foundation—and has since significantly expanded his practice to include intellectual property litigation and comprehensive corporate representation, particularly in matters involving technology-driven businesses.
Before joining Scheef & Stone, Mr. Schofield served as senior intellectual property counsel for a company at the forefront of electrifying the commercial transportation industry. In that role, he advised on a wide range of technology, licensing, and commercial agreements, and worked closely with business leadership on issues spanning corporate governance, intellectual property strategy, risk management, and commercialization. That experience broadened his practice well beyond traditional patent prosecution and now performs work across all aspects of corporate law, many of which are closely tied to intellectual property assets. Prior to his in-house role, he practiced at several Texas law firms handling intellectual property matters for a diverse client base.
With nearly a decade of experience as a mechanical engineer before attending law school, Mr. Schofield brings a practical, industry-informed perspective to his legal work. He regularly advises corporations, startups, and individual inventors on protecting proprietary technology, enforcing intellectual property rights, navigating patent disputes, and structuring commercial transactions that support long-term business objectives. His technical background, combined with his litigation and corporate experience, allows him to bridge the gap between innovation, legal protection, and business strategy.
