Sery often freelances as a food-and-travel writer. In this capacity, over the last four years, she has regularly written articles for:

Sery has also appeared on local morning shows for the Washington, D.C. market such as ABC’s “Let’s Talk Live” and Fox5 D.C.  Read more on her blog Adventures in Sery.

Sery’s background working for two Presidents, two presidential campaigns, as well as the United States Congress, provides a unique and invaluable background to her practice center on healthcare law, intellectual property, and litigation

Before entering the private sector, Sery developed substantial experience working in Washington, D.C. While Congressman Darrell Issa was Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Sery served as his Chief Health Counsel. In this capacity, Sery managed oversight for the entire health care portfolio, with a particular focus on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). For Chairman Darrell Issa, Sery served as Lead Counsel in the investigative hearings for both the infant and children’s product recalls by Johnson & Johnson, uncovering the FDA had approved silent recalls of these products without notifying the public: leading to a public apology by the FDA and pausing a major decline in Johnson & Johnson stock, public standing and their approach to their ongoing regulatory concerns. Sery also led hearings regarding oversight of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, as well as medical device reform at the FDA.

Prior to working for Chairman Issa, Sery also served as Senior Legislative Counsel for Congressman Michael C. Burgess, as well as Congressman Burgess’ Chief Oversight Counsel and Staff Liaison to the Subcomittee on Oversight and Investigations for the Energy and Commerce Committee. She also managed for Congressman Burgess the Joint Economic Committee portfolio with a particular focus on the U.S. Department of Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the International Monetary Fund, as well as other private actors with portfolios before the federal government, such as Goldman Sachs, Citibank, state & local governments and think tanks.

Sery initially moved from Texas to Washington, D.C. to work for President George W. Bush. Sery was a Schedule C Presidential Appointee, serving as Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary before being promoted to become the Advisor for Secretarial Initiatives. As Advisor to Secretary Michael O. Leavitt, Sery implemented the Secretary’s Value-Driven Health Care Initiative by working with federal partners at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid, the FDA’s Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and the White House. In particular, Sery convened public-private partnership meetings on the Value-Driven Health Care Initiative, including meeting one-on-one with senior executives at Fortune 100 companies.

She most recently worked for President Donald J. Trump’s Administration. During the official presidential transition period, Sery served as Sherpa to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Administrator nominee Seema Verma and to the Ambassador to Israel nominee David Friedman (both were confirmed and continue to serve in these roles). Sery joined the Administration as Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where she was a strategic communications advisor and helped with crisis communications.

In between working for Administrations and the U.S. Congress, Sery worked for the 2012 Republican nominee for President Mitt Romney. Sery served as one of his Deputy Coalition Directors focusing on women and small business outreach. During the 20212 campaign, she built the “Women for Mitt” coalition of women and the “Romney Small Business Advisory Council” with over 6,000 members.

Sery’s previous presidential campaign experience also includes working as a staffer for the 2008 “Huckabee for President” campaign on behalf of the former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, formerly a FOX News host and currently a TBN host.
